Confidentiality Charter

What is shared in the room stays in the room. Our confidentiality charter guarantees a sacred, stigma-free sanctuary for every voice.

Core Foundation of Let's TalkKatsina Community Standard

The Golden Rule of Let's Talk

“Whoever you see here, whatever is said here, whenever you leave here, let it stay here.”

Vulnerability requires immense courage. We protect that courage by ensuring that no story, struggle, tears, or victory shared inside our peer circles ever leaves the room.

1. The Safe Circle Covenant

At the beginning of every single Let's Talk session, all attendees verbally reaffirm the Safe Circle Covenant. This is an explicit, mutual commitment between peers that:

  • Personal identities and shared experiences are strictly confidential.
  • No participant will gossip, disclose, or discuss another participant's situation outside the room.
  • Everything spoken is received with empathy, respect, and zero judgment.

2. Why Confidentiality Matters in Our Community

In Northern Nigeria and Katsina State, social stigma and misunderstanding surrounding mental health challenges (such as grief, anxiety, depression, and trauma) often force individuals to suffer in silence.

Confidentiality breaks this silence. It builds an environment where students, mothers, professionals, and youth can speak their truth without fear of reputational harm, family friction, or social discrimination.

3. Facilitator Oath & Ethical Code

Every Let's Talk facilitator undergoes rigorous vetting and signs a legally binding non-disclosure agreement. Facilitators pledge to:

Maintain Silence

Never repeat stories or quote participants in private or public conversations.

Protect Privacy

Keep all participant check-in lists securely handled and inaccessible to unauthorized individuals.

4. Permissible & Mandatory Exceptions (Duty of Care)

Confidentiality is nearly absolute; however, human life and physical safety always come first. By law and professional ethics, facilitators must intervene in three narrowly defined situations:

A. Imminent Risk of Suicide or Severe Self-Harm

If an individual expresses active intent, specific plan, and immediate means to end their life, facilitators will connect with designated emergency contacts, crisis support coordinators, or emergency medical facilities to keep the individual safe.

B. Imminent Physical Threat to Another Person

If there is an explicit, credible threat of severe physical violence or bodily harm directed at an identifiable individual.

C. Child Abuse or Severe Safeguarding Violations

Mandatory reporting under Nigerian child protection laws regarding current or imminent abuse or neglect involving a minor.

5. Anonymity & First-Name Participation

We respect your comfort level. In our physical sessions:

  • You are welcome to introduce yourself by first name only, or by a chosen alias.
  • You are never pressured to speak. You may attend simply to listen and absorb support in silence.
  • Community stories published on our website are anonymized or shared only with full, written contributor consent.

6. Zero Recording & Device Rules

Electronic Device Protocol During Sessions

All phones and smart devices must be silenced or placed face-down during the session. Audio recording, photography, live streaming, or taking screenshots is strictly prohibited. Violators will be asked to leave immediately.

7. Reporting a Confidentiality Concern

If you believe another attendee or a volunteer facilitator has breached confidentiality or shared sensitive session details, please report it immediately to our lead coordinator. We treat all reports with utmost urgency and discretion.
